Kneepads or Not? Roofers have their say...

“Roofing involves heavy lifting, bending, climbing, and kneeling. Roofers replace, repair, and install the roofs of buildings using a variety of materials, including shingles, bitumen, and metal.” It’s no surprise that Roofing is an arduous job that puts strain upon many parts of the body, knee’s being one. Flat roofing especially requires a lot of kneeling, so it’s important to use the right type of protection. When working with extremely hot materials such as bitumen, your knee pads must be able to withstand the heat and keep your knees away from harm.As you may or may not no, flat roofs are available in...

How much can a knee replacement cost - and how can I prevent it in the first place

How much are your knees worth? £585million. That is how much it cost the NHS in 2014 for knee replacement operations (source). That is around 90,000 operations a year at an average of £6,500 per op (with the average price in the USA a staggering $25,398). That is an insane amount. Fast forward to today, and as you'd expect, he isn't the 15 year old lad he used to be (although definitely still as immature so my mum tells me.) His body has been put through it's paces and is starting to feel the consequences of a labour intensive career. His biggest regret? Not wearing kneepads from day 1.  If you work on your...

From Employee of Homebase, to Supplier...

Last week we announced, quite possibly, our most exciting piece of news to date. We’ve got a purchase order from Homebase! It’s a great opportunity for the business and a huge milestone in the Recoil Kneepads journey, but it also marks the achievement of a personal goal. A personal goal that I’d like to share in this blog. In 2015, when I was participating in the Starter for 6 Program run by The Cultural Enterprise Office, we were told to draw something we'd like to see happen in our future. For mine, I drew a Homebase receipt with the name ‘Recoil...
